BHAKTAPUR, Oct 26: In Bhaktapur's Sallaghari, traders have reduced the prices of chicken, sheep, goats and mountain goats brought for Dashain. The traders reduced the prices from today due to lower sales than expected.
After the Bijaya Dashami, the 10th day of the Dashain festival, the traders reduced the prices. According to the traders, the price of mountain goats brought from Mustang for Dashain has been reduced by Rs 250 per kilo from today. According to a trader,, the decision to reduce the prices was made based on the consensus of all traders in the area, and mountain goats are now available at Rs 1,000 per kilogram.

He stated that Nepali mountain goats from Bajhang are being sold at Rs 900 per kilogram, while Chinese mountain goats are available at Rs 1,000 per kilogram. Another mountain goat trader, Uttam Khadgi, explained that the price reduction was prompted by an increase in the cost of mountain goats from Mustang.
Khadgi stated, "Mountain goats brought from China by Nepali traders in Mustang are now priced at Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 each, making them more expensive this year."
Another trader, Ramesh Khadka, said that the price of mountain goats have come down and the price of sheep has also been reduced and sold at Rs 650 per kg. Another mountain goat trader, Kul Bahadur Shrestha, said that he had brought the sheep after getting it tested by a veterinarian.
The price of mountain goat meat has also seen a drop. Traders were initially selling mountain goat meat for Rs 2,800 per kilogram in Sallaghari Square, but they have decided to reduce it to Rs 2,500 per kilogram from today. Even the prices of castrated goats have been reduced in Sallaghari, now available at Rs 600 per kilogram.
This year, traders have brought approximately 2,000 goats, 2,000 sheep, and mountain goats to the area for sale during Dashain.
