KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal on Thursday informed about the decision made by CPN-UML on controversial seven-point deal to Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

In a meeting held between the two top leaders at the UML’s Parliamentary Party Office in Singha Durbar, Prime Minister Khanal, who is also Chairman of UML, asked Dahal not to harbor any suspicion about the decision made by UML’s Central Committee meeting on the deal. [break]

He urged the Maoist to join the government so as the cabinet formation is done without further delay.

The UML’s CC meeting on Tuesday had finally owned up to the controversial deal with additional explanatory notes to make clear the party´s stance over major contentious issues in the pact.

Among other things, Khanal and Dahal had agreed in the seven-point deal reached hours before the prime ministerial voting in January 20 to form a separate security force comprising Maoist combatants.

The agreement had drawn strong opposition not only from opposition parties but also from within the UML.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, Prime Minister Khanal said they informed the Maoist leaders about the decision made by UML’s CC meeting.

“The UML has clarified about the party’s decision on the seven-point deal,” said Khanal. “I hope they are convinced with our decision.”

Maoist Chairman Dahal, who was accompanied by the party’s Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya, said they heard the UML’s view on the seven-point deal. “Our Standing Committee meeting will make a formal decision whether to join the government,” Dahal further said.

The Maoist has been saying that the party would not join the government if the UML failed to fully abide by the seven-point deal.
