Kathmandu Marathon on September 12

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The third edition of the Real Kathmandu Marathon, which will be organized by Nepal Marathon Pvt Ltd, will be held on September 12. [break]



The marathon will feature men´s & women´s marathon, men´s & women´s half marathon, men´s & women´s five km unity run open, men´s & women´s five km unity run and men´s & women´s three km wheelchair.



According to Nilendra Shrestha, organizer of the event, about 10,000 participants are expected to participate in the event. The 42.195 km full marathon will start from Dasharath Stadium, go round Thapathali, Patan Gate Koteshwor, Satdobato, Jadibuti, Suryavinayak, Sallaghari, Sinamanagal, Chabahil Maharajgunj, Panipokhari, Lainchour, Sundhara and end at the starting point.



On the occasion, Shrestha and the assistant manager of Dabur Nepal Kashyap Shakya signed a memorandum of understanding for the title sponsorship. Dabur Nepal will provide a cash of Rs 1.9 million to the organizers.



The long distance runners from America, Canada, Ethopia, Kennya and other countries will also participate in the marathon, the organizers said.



The winner and the runner up of the men´s category will bag a purse of $ 5,000 and $ 3,000. The third to 10th position holder will receive $1500, $ 1000, $ 600, $ 500, $ 400, $ 300, $ 200 and $ 100 respectively while the top three position holders among women will get $3000, $ 2000 and $1000.



In men´s & women´s half marathon, the top three finishers will be handed a cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000 and 10,000. Similarly, the men´ & women´s winner of unity run open and school will each be awarded with Rs 10,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 each.



Arjun Dhakal of AFP is the defending champion of the event.
