"This event is an important part of experiential learning approach in educating our students" said Mahendra Khanal, principal of the school. The research that the students to access current international affairs and the UN's agenda, assists them learning to think globally, he added. The program had participants of grade eight and nine students who presented themselves as delegates of the UN member states and discussed various international issues.
The participants were divided into six different UN committees and bodies such as Social Humanitarian and Cultural Committee, Disarmament and International Security Committee, United Nations High Commission for Refugees, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, United Nations Development Program and Food and Agricultural Organization.
Each representative presented a mock draft resolution' which was deliberated among participants representing various member states that stood for and against the draft.
Among other burning global issues, the participants held discussions on the situation of human rights in Syria and the Middle East, refugee crisis in Europe, counter terrorism strategies, international strategies for disaster reduction and relief, and action against gender violence, among others.
