Judiciary to remain closed to mourn former CJ Khatri’s demise

KATHMANDU, May 25:  The judiciary is to remain closed on Sunday to mourn the demise of former Chief Justice Nayan Bahadur Khatri.

KATHMANDU, May 25:  The judiciary is to remain closed on Sunday to mourn the demise of former Chief Justice Nayan Bahadur Khatri. A full meeting of Supreme Court, the apex court, today decided to give a holiday in all courts—SC, district, high, special and tribunal—on Sunday, the press statement issued by SC chief registrar Nrip Dhwaj Niraula said.

The former CJ who had Alzheimer’s died on May 22, Wednesday in course of treatment at Mediciti Hospital, Lalitpur. He was born to Apsaradevi Khatri and then Lalitpur district’s major Dil Bahadur Khatri on Asoj 3, 1980 BS. Khatri had served as the SC chief justice from August 8, 1976, to December 10, 1985.


He was cremated at the local Pashupati Aryaghat. He had his special contribution to the overall enhancement of the judiciary by establishing the principle of an independent judiciary. He had joined the government service in 2004 BS and was the secretary at the Ministry of Law in 2009 as well.
