KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Jhala Nath Khanal, the senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist), is set to receive the third priority position in the Nepali Communist Party that is scheduled to be announced on Wednesday.
The agreement was reached during a meeting held on Wednesday morning among top leaders, including CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
According to sources, Bamdev Gautam had previously been placed in the third position. Khanal had expressed dissatisfaction over the proposed ranking amid ongoing unification efforts between the left factions.

Khanal, who had initially opposed the party’s decision and even discussed the matter with CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday, had hinted at initiating a process to reorganize the party. However, he eventually agreed to join the Dahal–Nepal group and arrived at the announcement event at Bhrikutimandap.
A leader involved in the unity talks said the Wednesday morning discussion finalized Khanal’s placement as third in the hierarchy of the new party.
In the newly formed Nepali Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal will hold the first position, Madhav Kumar Nepal second, Jhala Nath Khanal third, Bamdev Gautam fourth and Narayan Kaji Shrestha fifth.
