According to reports, Shueisha, the leading publishing company in Japan, made an announcement that Eiichiro Oda’s manga has surpassed 500 million copies with the release of its 103rd volume. After crossing this threshold, ‘One Piece’ became not only the first manga to achieve such accomplishments in Japan but also became the first comic series to pull off this breakthrough in the entire world on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
According to a report of Anime News Network, earlier, the manga had set a Guinness World Record in June 2015 for having 320,866,000 copies worldwide as of December 2014. The world record was for "The most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author." With today's announcement, the manga has updated its Guinness World Record.
To break down that over "500 million copies" number, over 410 million copies that have been printed (physically) and sold (digitally) come from Japan, making it the highest-selling manga of all time from just its own country, and then over 100 million copies from around the world in over 60 countries and regions. This means that ‘One Piece’ has actually printed (physically) and sold (digitally) 510 million copies across the globe.
