KATHMANDU, Jan 1: The police detained Janamat Party president CK Raut along with party leaders and cadres on Monday for staging a protest in the restricted zone. They, however, were released after some time.
The police detained 63 members of the party including its president and MP Raut and Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Anita Devi. As the protest rally marched from New Baneshwor to Maitighar, they were detained by the police for entering a prohibited zone. They were detained at the Nepal Police Club.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha personally went to the club and ordered the release of Raut, Minister Anita Devi and all those who were taken into custody, shared Kamal Giri, the press coordinator of Home Minister Shrestha.
Spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dineshraj Mainali, said that they were detained by the Kathmandu Police Range as they had staged the demonstration in the prohibited area.
