MAKWANPUR, DEC 29: Jagannath Thapaliya has been elected as the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader of CPN-UML Bagmati Province chapter. A PP meeting of UML Bagmati Province chapter held on Thursday unanimously elected Thapaliya as the PP leader of the party.
UML is the second largest party in the Bagmati province assembly. Thapaliya, who was picked as the PP leader, was elected from Chitwan-1. He is close to UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.
As the senior-most member among MPs elected from UML, Thapaliya was a political advisor when Dormani Poudel was the Chief Minister. He is also a Central Committee member of the UML.
There are 27 MPs in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly. While 13 of those were elected under the First Past the Post (FPTP) electoral system, 14 others were elected under the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system.
