A group of officials at the MoAD and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology recently returned from a study visit to Delhi and Bangkok.
“The farmers can take better decisions regarding their agricultural activities by the information of weather forecasts and market updates, among others,” said Mallick. The weather forecast information will also help farmers from flood-prone areas to take timely precautions.
The farmers can seek expert advices on the pests, pesticides and technical know-how related to farming after the AMIS comes into operation.
The program is one of four components of a pilot program on climate change resilience project funded by the World Bank.
MoAD has already started the virtual networks with major collection centers of agro- products and the market price of those centers is in display at the ministry. The MoAD plans to display the information at some public places in near future, according to Mallick.
And an SMS service pertaining to the market prices of 11 market centers in the Eastern Development Region is already operational.
