KATHMANDU, Jan 28:  A diffusion notice was issued against GB Rai of Suryadarshan Cooperative, on Friday for embezzling over Rs 1 billion. On Sunday, diffusion notices were issued against two more officials from the cooperative for alleged fraud.

The General Secretariat of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) issued a diffusion notice against Suryadarshan Cooperative’s current president Than Bahadur Budha Magar and former president Bhupendra Rai.

The District Police Office, Kaski, had written to the Police Head Office two weeks ago asking them to issue a diffusion notice in the case of fraud related to Suryadarshan Cooperative. Based on that, INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) Kathmandu requested the General Secretariat of Interpol to issue a diffusion notice.

After this notice is issued, it will be determined whether or not they are located in INTERPOL member countries. Then the process of deporting them and bringing them to Nepal will be started, the police said.

The Kaski District Court had ordered to keep treasurer Kumar Ramtel in custody pending trial on October 8, 2023, on the charge of misappropriating the funds collected by the cooperative’s savers. In this case, the vice president Kailash Kumar Darlami, members Shiv Bahadur Gurung and Bhagishwar Aryal were also arrested and are in custody pending trial, Kaski police said.

The police issued arrest warrants against 19 people including GB in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case. As many as 15 of them are absconding.

It is mentioned in the complaint that the officials of Suryadarshan embezzled Rs 1.113 billion from the depositors. According to the Cooperative Act, they have been demanded a fine equal to eight to 10 years imprisonment.

It is mentioned in the report submitted by the police that GB Rai and other officials have embezzled money from Suryadarshan by creating fake shareholders and companies, without any collateral.
