Integration calender to be affected

KATHMANDU, June 27: The calendar of operation related to the integration of the UCPN (Maoist) is likely to be affected due to misunderstanding among the top political leadership.

The calendar was prepared by the Special Committee formed for supervision, integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist fighters.[break]

As per the calendar, the major parties have to reach an agreement on the issues related to the modality of integration, the number, adjustment of posts and voluntary retirement by today. The parties, however, have failed to complete this mandate within the scheduled time.

The army integration calendar is to be affected as the parties failed to reach an agreement on the contentious issues in the constitution writing within the deadline, said Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, one of the members on the Special Committee.

Prior to this, the first amendment to the calendar was made as the works on the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants that were to be completed by June 19 could not be completed.

As per the first point of the five- point agreement reached among the parties for extending the tenure of the Constituent Assembly ( CA) on May 28, the issues related to integration modality and package have to be settled by today.

The Special Committee meeting scheduled for Monday, however is not to amend the integration calendar. There is a possibility of carrying out second amendment to the calendar only after the decision of the ongoing central committee meeting of the UCPN (Maoist).
