Indian Express Chief Editor wins Banaras Lit Fest Award for Fiction

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Raj Kamal Jha, Chief Editor of The Indian Express and renowned author, has been honored with the ‘Banaras Lit Fest Award’ in the ‘Ruskin Bond Fiction Book Award Category’ for his novel The Patient in Bed Number 12.


The Banaras Lit Fest Book Awards, considered one of India’s most prestigious literary honors, recognize outstanding contributions in poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and translation. This year’s winning books explore themes of identity, history, language, and contemporary issues, highlighting the diversity and depth of Indian literature.

In addition to Jha’s recognition, the festival will confer the Bhartendu Harishchandra Lifetime Achievement Award to eminent Hindi writer Kashinath Singh for his contributions to Hindi literature.


The awards will be presented at the Banaras Lit Fest, scheduled from March 7 to 9, 2025, at Hotel Taj, Banaras. The festival, known for celebrating literary excellence and cultural discourse, will bring together esteemed authors, scholars, and literature enthusiasts from across the country.
