India flood survivors killed in landslide on way home in Kalikot

SURKHET, June 27: Two persons who were returning home after surviving the recent floods and landslides in Kedarnath, India, were buried to death in a landslide just when they were about reach their home in Kalikot.



Jakte BK, 45, and Daljit BK, 40, of Rachuli in the district died after a landslide buried them at 3 in the morning. One other person, Buche BK, was injured in the mishap. The injured has been sent to Surkhet for treatment, Kalikot CDO Jagat Basnet said. [break]



According to the government official, the three were sleeping on the rooftop of the house of Bhakta Bahadur Malla at Serighat when a landslide fell on them in the early hours. The landslide partially damaged the house but family memers escaped unhurt.

 

The victims had been to Kadarnath for employment. They had lost four of their family members to the recent disaster that struck the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, journalist Keshav Raj Kathayat, quoting the victims, said.



Meanwhile, the whereabouts of 10 people washed away by the flooded Sannighadkhola stream are not yet known. The life of those displaced by the flood is in a pathetic condition. 55 people of the 18 displaced families are living under tents.
