POKHARA, June 23: The 'Nepal-China Friendship Dragon Boat Race Festival' commenced on Friday at Phewa Lake in Pokhara, marking it to be the first such boat race in South Asia. Tourism entrepreneurs expect that this event will attract an increased number of Chinese tourists to Pokhara.

Eight special boats have been brought from China to Pokhara for this festival, which will race over distances of 200 and 500 meters on Phewa Lake. The festival was officially inaugurated by the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kiranti, amid a formal program today.
