IFAD to provide Rs 1.05b for HVAP

KATHMANDU, July 6: International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) has agreed to provide assistance worth Rs 1.05 billion to Nepal for the implementation of High Value Agriculture Project in Hill and Mountain Areas (HVAP). IFAD is providing 50 percent of the total assistance as grant.



Lal Shankar Ghimire, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance, and Ronald Thomas Hartman, country manager of IFAD´s Asia and Pacific Division, signed the agreement to this effect, MoF said in a statement. [break]



The statement further added the project will contribute to improve the livelihoods of the targeted group, improved market linkages and better access to finance in order to help reduction of poverty in hilly and mountain areas of mid-western development region.



The project area consists of 10 districts in the hill and mountain areas, namely Surkhet, Salyan, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Jumla, Kalikot, Dolpa, Humla, Mugu and Achham. About 114 VDCs are expected to benefit from the project.
