Huawei ICT competition concludes in Shenzhen with record participation

According to Huawei, this year’s competition attracted more than 220,000 students and faculty members from over 2,000 universities and colleges across more than 100 countries and regions. Following national and regional rounds, 177 teams from 49 countries and regions advanced to the global final.

KATHMANDU, June 5: The global final of the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 concluded in Shenzhen on Thursday, marking the largest edition of the competition in its 10-year history and highlighting the growing role of technology competitions in developing future AI and digital talent, Huawei said in a press release.



According to Huawei, this year’s competition attracted more than 220,000 students and faculty members from over 2,000 universities and colleges across more than 100 countries and regions. Following national and regional rounds, 177 teams from 49 countries and regions advanced to the global final.


A total of 18 teams from eight countries—China, Nigeria, Singapore, Algeria, Brazil, Egypt, Kenya, and the Dominican Republic—won Grand Prizes across the competition’s three main categories: Practice, Innovation, and Programming.

According to the press release, several special awards were also presented. The Women in Tech Award recognized seven all-female teams from Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Kenya, China, and Bahrain. The Green Development Award went to teams from Ghana and China, while 10 Chinese students received Fast Passes to Huawei’s Future Business Leader Track. Sixteen instructors from nine countries and regions, including Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt, the UAE, Brazil, Thailand, Türkiye, and China, received the Most Valuable Instructor Award.


The event was attended by diplomatic representatives from 11 countries, including ambassadors, consuls general, and counselors, who presented awards to participants from their respective nations, the press release said.


Speaking at the closing ceremony, Huawei ICT Strategy and Business Development Department President Ritchie Peng said the competition reflects the company's commitment to nurturing digital and AI talent through practical learning and innovation.


The event also featured the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit, where Huawei unveiled its ICT Academy AI Course Solution for universities and released a report on ICT skills development in Central Asia and the Caucasus.


Huawei said the competition aims to help address the global shortage of talent in fields such as AI, computing, big data, and cybersecurity by providing students with hands-on learning opportunities and international exposure.
