KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Former King Gyanendra Shah has said that it was already late to analyze whether the current national politics is honest, nation-centered and pro-people.

Issuing a press statement on the eve of the 299th birth anniversary of King Prithivi Narayan Shah, the founder of modern Nepal, former King Shah on Sunday said that politics is the highest recognized means of serving the people. “However, it’s high time that we evaluated how honest and pro-people the politics being practiced in Nepal is,” Shah said.

He further said that his biggest worry at present is - how the country can be kept safe in the current situation.

“Nepalis have felt that untoward incidents are taking place and the country’s history, civilization, religion, culture and national unity are being sabotaged in the name of change and according to the will of foreign forces.”

Shah said that it has been a tradition of the Shah dynasty to move forward by respecting the people’s will. He also urged everyone to remember that the Shah Kings in Nepal did not only become active monarchs but also accepted the role of constitutional monarchy and were honest to the extent of sacrificing the crown.
