KATHMANDU, Oct 18: The District Police Range (DPR), Lalitpur, are set to investigate the incident involving a businessman who was ensnared in a ‘honey trap’ and extorted Rs 3 million as an organized crime case.
Initially, the police were investigating the case under criminal benefit offenses. However, police have decided to also investigate the case under organized crime, due to the complex nature of the incident. The Lalitpur police reported that they have already received permission from the District Court, Lalitpur, to carry out the investigation under organized crime.

Taj Mul Islam of Itahari and Darshan Pokharel of Itahari have been accused of running a business of extorting money by trapping young women in honey traps. They had influenced the then Inspector Binu Kumari Shahi of Bhaisepati Police Station to implicate the businessman in a rape case if he refused to pay the money and extorted Rs 3 million from him on September 6.
The police have arrested Sushma BK, Bhima Devi Thapa and Inspector Shahi’s driver Constable Mahendra Hamal and have started the investigation against them. The Lalitpur District Court has also issued an arrest warrant to investigate Police Inspector Shahi.
Following the incident, the police headquarters suspended Shahi from her position. Shahi absconded following the suspension. This group has been revealed to have extorted large sums of money from a number of individuals, threatening them that they would be implicated into rape cases.
