Honey trap case: Inspector Binu Shahi appears before court

Shahi, along with five others, faces charges of criminal profit and organized crime. The case stemmed from an investigation where the main suspect, Taj Islam, was sent to custody in November. Other defendants, including Bhima Devi and Susma BK, were granted bail.

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: Police Inspector Binu Kumari Shahi, accused of extorting money through a honey trap scheme, appeared at the Lalitpur District Court on Sunday. The court, presided over by Judge Rita Kumari Bakhrel, is set to decide whether to send her into custody for trial or release her on bail after reviewing her statement.


Shahi, along with five others, faces charges of criminal profit and organized crime. The case stemmed from an investigation where the main suspect, Taj Islam, was sent to custody in November. Other defendants, including Bhima Devi and Susma BK, were granted bail.

The incident, which occurred in Bhaisepati, involved the use of a young woman, Susma BK, to frame a businessman for rape and extort money. Police found that the extortion ring had planned the honey trap, with BK and others using the victim’s relationship with her to target him. The businessman was coerced into depositing large sums, including Rs 200,000 in cash and a check of Rs 100,000, into the bank accounts of the defendants.


Further investigation by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) revealed that the plot was orchestrated by Taj Islam and Darshan Pokharel, while Assistant Constable Mahendra Hamal was implicated in assisting with the money transfer. Shahi, who was serving as the Inspector at Bhaisepati Police Sector, absconded but has now appeared in court.
