According to Home Ministry Spokesperson Jaya Mukunda Khanal, a letter has been sent to Morang District Administration Office, asking CDO Shrestha to come to Kathmandu. “We have summoned him to Kathmandu to learn about the incident since there are disputes about him,” said Khanal. [break]
Khanal said Acting CDO Surendra Poudel has been asked to work as Acting CDO since Thursday morning. “Shrestha is likely to arrive in Kathmandu by Friday,” he added.
Customs officials had shut down Jogbani Customs on Thursday alleging that CDO Shrestha summoned Biratnagar Customs Officer Man Bahadur Poudel and three other custom officers in the night and inflicted them with mental torture.
Shrestha had inquired customs officer Poudel why the latter allegedly gave remarks in the court against District Administration Office (DAO), ignoring the code of employees after Bishal Chemicals filed a case in Appellate Court against the padlocking in the industry on the directives of the CDO.
Police had raided the factories and locked them out on June 25 on direct order of CDO Shrestha, following which its promoter Bhawani Shankar Bohara had lodged a case against the DAO at the Biratnagar Appellate Court on July 1.
Meanwhile, Finance Ministry and Home Ministry have jointly started probing into the alleged misbehavior by the CDO against the customs officials, Thursday. Joint secretary at the Finance Ministry Shanta Raj Subedi and Joint Secretary at Home Ministry Shanker Prasad Koirala inquired the Customs In-charge Mitra Lal Regmi and CDO Shrestha, among others, about the incident.
