KATHMANDU, Oct 30: Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has formed a three-member committee to investigate the Syangja police firing that took place on Tuesday at Chapakot VDC in the district.

According to MoHA, DSP Jaya Bahadur Chand and Investigation Director Arjun Kumar KC are the members of the probe committee headed by Shambhu Koirala, Director General of the Department of Prison Management. The ministry has expressed grief on the incident. [break]

The committee is mandated to submit investigation report within a week, the statement said. Two persons were killed in Chapakot VDC of the district when the police opened fire following scuffle between locals and the police.

The violence ensued when the locals hurled stones and bricks at Chapakot-based local police post claiming that the police did not carry out investigation into the murder case of Maya Biswakarma. She was found dead on October 13. The police lobbed tear gas and lathicharged at locals, which preceded the firing.
