According to a press statement issued by the US Embassy, the concerts are expected to help create linkages between hip-hop music and civic activism in Nepal.

The concert will be organized in Jawalakhel on Saturday and Birgunj on Monday.
Laure, Swopna Suman, Sandhya Joshi and Cartoonz Crew will join the performance of Mahogany Jones and her band at Jawalakhel Football Ground from 3 pm onward on Saturday.  According to the statement, the concert in Birgunj shall be performed on April 9 at Adarshanagar Stadium from 4 pm onward. Performing artists shall be Mahogany Jones and her band as well as Shiva Pariyar, Sunil Pandit and Sandhya Joshi, while Presca Udas will act as emcee.

"While hip-hop is a very popular art form for many youth - who make up 70 % of Nepal's population -its use for social and political expression and change is largely unknown.

Formed in the United States as a music genre, hip-hop has a significant influence on American political discourse," said the statement, while adding that the concerts aims at demonstrating this unique combination of music and form of expression.

During her stay in Nepal, Mahogany Jones and the band will also lead a series of workshops and deliver presentations focusing on hip-hop to inspire civic activism in addition to the two free public concerts.
