KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The Kathmandu District Court is scheduled to conduct a hearing on the rape case against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane today.
Earlier, Judge Rajkumar Khatiwada's bench had taken a decision to delay the proceedings, citing the need to verify the date of birth (DoB) of the victim, Gaushala 26's mother. If there is no further order in today's hearing, a judgment-focused hearing is expected today.
Lamichhane has been demanded to be sentenced to 12 years in prison for allegedly raping a minor. Lamichhane has been accused of having committed an offense under Sub-section (3) of Section 219 of Chapter 18 of the National Civil Code, 2074 BS.
A complaint was filed against him on September 6 last year on the charge of rape. He was arrested from the Tribhuvan International Airport on October 6, one month after the arrest warrant was issued.
Sandeep has not gone to Pakistan to play Asia Cup cricket as the case has not been resolved.
