KATHMANDU, Oct 12: A hearing on the rape case against cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane is scheduled for today.
The eagerly awaited hearing on the rape case involving cricketer Lamichhane is yet to conclude, despite the Supreme Court's directive for an expeditious resolution. The Supreme Court had ordered a swift decision on this case back on February 27, urging the judicial process to accelerate.
In compliance with this directive, a joint bench comprising Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Kumar Chudal granted Sandeep Lamichhane permission to travel abroad while simultaneously instructing the Kathmandu District Court to prioritize the fast-track proceedings in the rape case. Unfortunately, even after seven months, the district court has not managed to reach a final hearing.
The charges against Sandeep Lamichhane date back to a complaint filed on September 6 the previous year, accusing him of the rape of a minor. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued against him, leading to his apprehension at the Tribhuvan International Airport on October 6.
