Head Constable Janak Negi from Jhalari-7 of Kanchanpur district, died in the course of treatment at Nepal Police Hospital in Kathmandu, according to Chief District Officer of Kailali Mohan Chapagain.With the death of Negi, the death toll from Kailali incident has reached nine. At least 21 police and APF personnel had sustained injuries in the incident.
A total of five injured police personnel, including Negi, had been undergoing treatment at the Nepal Police Hospital.
Meanwhile, security personnel shot at Jagat Raj Devkota, 20, local of Sugarkhal-1, Fallebiasuni, for defying curfew at Durgauli of the district on Thursday. Devkota was riding a motorcycle during the curfew and has received bullet injuries to his stomach and knee.
"After his treatment was not possible at Tikapur Hospital, he was referred to Nepalgunj Medical College," said Dr Lal Singh Tamatta. According to him, Devkota is critically injured.
Markets reopen after two weeks
Markets in Banke district have reopened after 16 days of general strike called by an alliance of Tharuhat Sangharsh Samiti and Madhesi Morcha. Transport services, however, have yet to resume in the district.
The reopening of markets has come as a great relief to the locals in the district. Due to shutdown of markets for over two weeks now, locals had been facing shortage of daily necessities.
Daily wage laborers, transport entrepreneurs, businessmen have also been hit hard due to the indefinite banda.
On Wednesday, the agitating alliance had decided to allow markets to reopen considering the adverse impact of banda on the lives of locals.
