KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Two standing committee members of the CPN-UML-- Prithivi Subba Gurung and Kiran Gurung-are lobbying to get chief ministerial position of Province 4. Both the leaders are busy convincing top leaders to get the top post.
Secretary Prithvi Subba, who was elected lawmaker in Constituent Assembly elections in 2008 from Lamjung, had worked as tourism minister whereas Kiran was elected lawmaker in the first CA. Kiran also has experience of working as forest minister.
Gurung duo battle for chief minister
Projecting both the leaders as chief minister of Province 4, the UML had fielded them in the provincial elections.
Prithivi Subba Gurung, who arrived in Pokhara on Monday said, "I contested the provincial elections to become chief minister. I let go of a parliamentary seat to serve in the province, so I should get chief minister," said Prithivi Subba adding, "We will try to settle the issue through consensus and if consensus attempts fail, it will be decided through a vote."
Kiran also argued that he had already worked as party's provincial chief so he is laying claim to the post of chief minister.
The party has called a meeting to elect party's provincial parliamentary party leader. One elected as party's provincial parliamentary leader will lead the province as chief minister.
Secretary Prithivi Subba is reportedly close to party chairman KP Oli whereas party vice chairman Bamdev Gautam has been mounting pressure on party leadership to make Kiran as chief minister.
