The teacher, 40-year-old Surya Narayan Sah, was abducted when he was heading for the school.[break]
According to police, ten armed men abducted Sah from Laxmipur forest area of Saptari while he was traveling to the school on a motorcycle along with Prahlad Thakur, another teacher. They had left Lahan at 10 am.
The armed men dragged Thakur some 200 meters, after which he lost consciousness. Eyewitnesses said the armed men then left Thakur and then dragged Sah away.
Sah, who is receiving treatment at Lahan Nursing Home, said the abductors hit him with the butt of their guns.
According to Sah, the abductors seemed to be of Madhesi origin but were speaking Nepali.
Police from Saptari, Siraha and Udayapur have been mobilized to search for Sah, according to Superintendent of Police Keshari Raj Ghimire, police chief for Sagarmatha zone.
Sah is one of the longest serving teachers of the school. Seven months ago, he had confided to colleagues that he had been receiving extortion calls from armed groups. He had reported the calls to a ward police office in Lahan back then.
Sah was also involved in selling and buying land, teachers at the school said. Geshraj Karki, a teacher, said that after the incident, a man, who said he was calling from India, asked for Thakur. The person hung up after being informed that Thakur was receiving treatment, and couldn´t talk to him.
