POKHARA, Oct 13: Guinness World Records has completed final measurements of Khagendra Thapa Magar´s body before officially recognizing him as the shortest man alive in the world.

Physical and health tests for Khagendra started at the Phewa City Hospital Wednesday morning and the Guinness World Records team had him tested thrice during the day through Dr Hum Prasad Neupane, pediatrician at the hospital.[break]

“The measurements were done at eight in the morning, at noon and at three in the afternoon,” Khagendra´s father Roop Bahadur said while coming out of the hospital in the afternoon.

The Guinness World Records team, which arrived here on Tuesday, sent the results of the tests to its London office later in the evening, according to President of the Khagendra Thapa Magar Foundation Min Bahadur Rana. Guinness will award the certificate to Khagendra on Thursday if nobody else comes by then with a claim to be the shortest man. “If anyone comes forward with a claim to being the shortest man, the certificate may not be given to him,” Rana added.

Dr Neupane said Khagendra measures 56 centimeters or 22.04 inches in height and weighs five kilograms.

The government has already appointed Khagendra a goodwill ambassador for the Tourism Year 2011 after widespread discussions. Born on October 14, 1992 in Dhullubaskot-6 of Baglung district as the eldest son of Roop Bahadur and Dhan Maya, Khagendra completed 17 years of age last year and got his citizenship certificate.

Guinness World Records had conducted measurements for Khagendra in Rome, Italy at February end and certified him as the shortest youth as he had yet to complete 18 years, as required by Guinness.

A team from the Guinness Book that conducted measurements of Khagendra´s body in Rome then had ascertained that he measures 22.04 inches and weighs five kilograms. Before this, it was claimed that he was just 20 inches tall.
