KATHMANDU, May 20: The government is set to celebrate a week-long International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 20-26. The awareness campaign aims to stop drug abuse and its illicit trafficking.
Preparations for the campaign have started by forming a main organizing committee under the coordination of Narayan Prasad Sharma, chief of the Policy, Plan, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Govt to observe week-long International Day against Drug Abuse
Attending the event here on Sunday, coordinator Sharma urged the representatives of the concerned ministries and different non-government offices to make and launch such awareness campaigns throughout the year and come up with a national slogan for the International Day within five days.
A meeting held at the home ministry also decided to request the state and local governments to help make the International Day a success. A Preparation and Management Committee has been formed under the coordination of Under-Secretary of the Home Ministry, Jhankanath Dhakal, which has been tasked with the responsibility of coordinating with the organizations and ministries concerned for the International Day against Drug Abuse.
Representatives from the Ministry of Health and Population, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Guardian Association, Auditors Association, Save the Children and other related organizations were present in the meeting.
