Govt officials insensitive to reducing arrears while utilizing state’s funds: FCGO report

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: The Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO) has recommended to the government to set necessary laws to penalize the government officials who are found not assuming their accountability in utilizing the state funds and repeating the similar flaws in arrears year on year.


In its Integrated Internal Audit Report of 2020/21 unveiled on Wednesday, the FCGO states that the government officials have appeared insensitive to implementing correction measures on settlement of the financial transactions despite the constitutional body issuing guidelines via its report every year. As a result, the arrear amounts in government agencies have been on the rise, the report reads.

In 2020/21, the arrear amounts of the federal government stood at Rs 25.26 billion, which was 121.62 percent more than the amount of Rs 11.40 billion in the previous year.


Any financial transaction carried out without providing the required documents and fulfilling the processes is listed under arrears. Large amount of arrears expresses higher possibilities of corruption in the government bodies concerned.


Of the amounts in arrears, the government needs to regularize Rs 6.95 billion while Rs 591.90 million is recorded under the amount to be recovered. Similarly, the advance amount received by the government officials that had crossed the maturity date was Rs 17.71 billion.
