KATHMANDU, April 21: Nearly all political parties, including major partner in the current coalition government CPN-UML, have concluded that the government´s move in seeking clarification from Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal is against the peace process. [break]

A meeting of the parties, initiated by main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), on Tuesday, also decided to submit a memorandum to President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to draw his attention over the issue. A team of the party representatives are set to submit the memorandum to President Dr Yadav at 2.45 p.m. Tuesday.

The largest party in the coalition government, Unified CPN (Maoist), was not invited to the meeting. Two other ruling parties -- Madhesi Peoples Rights Forum and Sadbhwana Party -- did not it.

The parties decided to jointly protest the Maoists´ intention in seeking clarification from army chief Katawal in the parliament.

The meeting concluded that the government´s move will seriously affect the constitution-formulation process.

Earlier, NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba charged that the Maoists were trying to harm the institution of Nepal Army (NA).

He said the issues for which the government sought clarification from the army chief had no legal basis.
