A meeting of the Central Security Committee held at the Home Ministry on Sunday has chalked out a plan of action to jointly mobilize the three security agencies - Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department - for the next three days.
An official present at the meeting said, "If the situation along the highways and border check points continues to remain volatile, seeking the support of NA is inevitable."
NA personnel will be deployed as part of strengthening the arm of the civil authority as per the existing laws, the official said.
Although a section of politicos have brushed aside the need for involving the NA, the government has come up with plans to mobilize the army to maintain peace and security in eight sensitive districts. The motive for the mobilization is to ease the supply of essential goods from India that has been disrupted since almost two months back, the security source added.
In late August, NA personnel had left their barracks to control the violence in the wake of the Kailali carnage.
NA was deployed as "an aid to civil authority" in different riot-hit districts in the Tarai and was later confined to barracks under the condition that it would be requested for support as per the Local Administration Act, 2028, if required.
Meanwhile, the Central Security Meeting held in the presence of representatives of all security agencies also decided to form central and local security cells for the implementation of new security strategies to settle the ongoing crisis.
As per the new security strategies, vigilance at the entry and exit points of major cities will be made tighter, additional security will be provided to VVIPs and VIPs as per the security threats and security will be beefed up at vital installations, bridges, embassies and the offices of the international agencies, among others.
The committee has also planned stern steps to check the growing black market in fuel and other essential goods.
