Govt issues cyber security advisory for employees

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The government has issued a cyber security advisory for the users of government websites. The National Cyber ​​Security Center under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology issued the advisory on cyber security.


The advisory issued for users of government information technology systems has asked them to make arrangements to change their passwords every three months. The center has stated that the advisory was issued with the aim of avoiding problems such as hacking websites and data theft.

The advisory has asked them to use passwords that cannot be easily guessed, such as the names of family, relatives, friends, and mobile numbers. According to the advisory, 21-point instructions have been given regarding the security of government office websites, applications, servers, storage and networks. 


The advisory mentions regularly backing up and archiving data, preparing and implementing a business community plan, using genuine licensed hardware and software, keeping passwords strong, updating source code and keeping it safe. It has also been said to make arrangements for mandatory security checks of information technology systems at least once a year and to make arrangements for its audit log.
