Govt committed to operationalizing Bhairahawa Airport: Tourism Minister

Minister Pandey emphasized that the airport's functionality is closely tied to Lumbini’s significance as a spiritual site. He said that an implementation plan is already in place for the operation of both Bhairahawa and Pokhara airports, although some challenges remain.

KATHMANDU, May 12: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Pandey has said that the government is actively working to ensure the effective operation of Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa.


Speaking at a program held in Lumbini on the occasion of the 2569th Buddha Jayanti, Minister Pandey emphasized that the airport's functionality is closely tied to Lumbini’s significance as a spiritual site. He said that an implementation plan is already in place for the operation of both Bhairahawa and Pokhara airports, although some challenges remain.

An inter-ministerial meeting, including the prime minister, is scheduled for May 21 to address these issues. He also reiterated the government's commitment to promoting Lumbini as a global center for spiritual learning, reflection, and peace.
