A cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar took a decision to this effect as per a nod given by the Finance Ministry. The vacancies were approved in accordance with the government´s plan to recruit 10,001 more police personnel for enforcing the Special Security Plan.[break]
The vacancies endorsed by the cabinet include those for two deputy inspectors general (DIGs), four senior superintendents of police (SSPs), 12 superintendents of police (SPs), 27 deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), 78 inspectors, 311 sub-inspectors, 447 assistant sub-inspectors, 736 head constables, 2,159 constables and 223 others.
The cabinet has also decided to promote NA officers.
According to Minister for Information and Communications Shankar Pokharel, the meeting promoted Lieutenant Colonels Surendra Bahadur Sinjapati, Surya Prakash Khanal, Sudarshan Bikram Rana, Shailendra Shumser Thapa, Bal Krishna Karki, Sanjaya Singh Bhandari, Padam Singh Angbo, Jit Bahadur Gurung and Saroj Pratap Rana to the rank of colonel. Likewise, Brigadier General Pawan Bahadur Pandey was promoted to major general.
Pokharel said the meeting also decided to form a high-level mechanism under the health minister to take measures for containing a diarrhea epidemic in various parts of the country.
The meeting appointed Sanjeev Kumar Mallik as general manager of Nepal Railway Company and Raj Narayan Ram as chairman of the Sugarcane and Sugar Development Committee. Among other things, the cabinet decided to erect a Republic Tower on land belonging to the proposed UN Park in Lalitpur, and to divest shares of the Sana Kisan Bank to Sana Kisan Cooperative.
