Govt allocates Rs 100 million for Jajarkot earthquake victims, contributes Rs 5.5 million to disaster funds

KATHMANDU, Nov 4: In response to the earthquake in Jajarkot, the government has authorized the immediate disbursement of Rs 100 million to aid the earthquake victims. Additionally, the Home Ministry decided to allocate Rs 5.5 million to the disaster relief funds of both Jajarkot and Rukum West districts, aiming to support the rescue and relief operations for the affected individuals.

This decision was reached during an emergency meeting held at the Home Ministry this morning, where various government bodies and agencies, including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Physical Planning, Ministry of Federal Affairs, Nepali Army, and other security and rescue units, were represented.

Following a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Lamidanda in Jajarkot's Barekot Rural Municipality-1 on Friday night, security agencies have been actively engaged in rescue and relief efforts, responding to the significant human and physical damage sustained in parts of Jajarkot and Rukum West.

According to spokesperson Narayan Bhattarai, the Ministry of Home Affairs has already dispatched initial relief supplies via the Nepali Army's helicopters. Furthermore, teams from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force have been mobilized from Jajarkot, West Rukum, East Rukum, Rolpa, Surkhet, Banke, and Dang districts to assist in rescue operations. Medical teams from these districts have also reached the affected areas.

Bhattarai further said that, in addition to the local medical teams associated with security agencies, a medical team of 11 members from the Armed Police Force Hospital, Bir Hospital, and Army Hospital reached the incident site via a sky truck this morning to provide medical support and aid in the ongoing relief efforts.
