“This exhibition is not only an expression of the rich biodiversity of Colombia but also conveys a deep message about the need for the public commitment on preserving natural heritage and maintaining sustainability,” said Juan Alfredo Pinto, Ambassador of Colombia to Nepal. “Countries like Nepal and Colombia are rich in aesthetics and have to assume the responsibility to protect the resources and use it in a sustainable way,” he further added saying that the exhibition calls attention of the international community and the citizens of Nepal about the importance of the Amazon. ‘Amazing Amazon’, which has already been showcased in Delhi, India, will also be taken to five other cities including Dhaka. The photographs in the exhibition were accompanied by texts extracted from Colombian author William Ospina’s ‘The Land of the Cinnamon’, a book which tells the story of Orellana who is credited to the discovery of the Amazon. “The discovery that Orellana made 500 years ago, Hemelryck makes the same with his camera,” commented the Ambassador.
The exhibition is scheduled to be on display at the Park Gallery, Pulchowk till September 30, 2012.
