KATHMANDU, April 21: As the impact of COVID-19 is receding, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has come up with a new tourist concept for the year 2022. The TAT launched ‘Amazing Thailand, Amazing New Chapters’ to welcome tourists into the country adapting to the new normal.

Speaking at a program organized by TAT on Wednesday, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal Vosita Vorasaph said that the country has adopted a high standard of safety for its guests. “Tourism activities in the last two years were disrupted but now it has slowly been opened and brought to normal,” he said. “Both Nepal and Thailand should take this as an opportunity to collaborate.”

According to TAT, Thailand is now filled with more amazing new experiences than ever before and makes tourists’ new chapter the very best of their lives.

Ramesh Thapa, President of Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) said the mobility of tourists is increasing along with the volume of trade. “More direct flights need to be added between the two countries in order to establish a people to people relationship.”

The tourism promotion campaign focused on how visiting Thailand can unlock new experiences for the visitors. According to Vachirachai Sirisumpan, director at TAT, New Delhi Office, the domestic Thai tourism is booming and the government is looking to bring in more international tourists to revive the sector. “Tourism activities are now getting back to normal- shopping centers, tourist destinations, activities have started catering to tourists like they did before COVID-19,” he said, adding that hotels and hospitals have partnered for Safety and Health Administration certification.

According to the country’s provision for tourists, international arrivals under any of the current three entry schemes – TEST & GO, Sandbox, and Alternative Quarantine (AQ) – will be allowed to enter Thailand without the need to show proof of a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of travel. However, one will need to undergo an RT-PCR once they land in Thailand at the airport using their Test & Go Program.

The vaccination rate of the Thai population is remarkable as 76 percent of the total targeted population have been fully vaccinated whereas 37 percent have already been inoculated with booster dose, said Sirisumpan. “About 70,000 Nepalis visited Thailand in 2019 and as the direct flight between the countries increases, the flow of tourists will once again catch up.”
