KATHMANDU, Nov 9: CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal on Friday urged the CPN-Maoist not to enforce any banda programs, targeting the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections scheduled for November 19.

The nation will incur a loss of millions of rupees if the elections arenot held, he said. Taking part in a face-to-face program, he urged Mohan Baidya, the CPN-Maoist Chairman, not to organize unruly activities which are intended at foiling the elections.[break]

"Those parties who go against the people’s interest will lose its existence," he remarked.

Stating that the election fever has already gripped the entire nation, Nepal also pledged that the CPN-Maoist will be included in drafting of the new constitution.

The former Prime Minister who is also an election candidate from the Kathmandu Constituency No. 2 accused the UCPN (Maoist) of creating psychological fear among the public by bringing the Young Communist League (YCL) cadres to the streets.

He further blamed that the UCPN (M) is still governed by a totalitarian mindset and the first CA failed to promulgate a new constitution due to the UCPN(Maoist).

On different note, he stressed the need of holding the local bodies´ election in March-April next year with the massive participation of women and youths.

“Our party is committed towards federalism along with multiple identities, nationality, democracy, social harmony, rule of law and drafting of a new constitution within a year,” he said.

He added that his party is for going to referendum to settle the contentious issues if the next CA again fails to promulgate a new constitution within a year.
