KATHMANDU, March 11: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has urged all to get rid of the illusion that the US troops will be coming to Nepal after the parliamentary ratification of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant agreement.

Addressing the inaugural function of the 23rd General Assembly of the Federation of Construction Entrepreneurs of Nepal in Kathmandu on Friday, Home Minister Khand said that the MCC is for development partnership without any military, political and administrative strings attached to it.

He said the MCC compact agreement was ratified by the parliament and the US would not send troops for the construction of transmission lines. Home Minister Khand remarked that electricity transmission lines would come into operation but not the army. He noted that the MCC compact agreement should be well received for the country’s economy.

He claimed that MCC would play an important role in alleviating poverty in Nepal, increasing economic activity in Nepal, speeding up the construction of physical infrastructure and road expansion, bringing electricity transmission lines to people's doorsteps, and balancing the country's trade deficit by selling surplus electricity to neighboring countries. Home Minister Khand complained that the protest against bringing investment in big projects in Nepal has increased.

Home Minister Khand also said that the government is positive about increasing the working capacity of construction entrepreneurs. He claimed that the government is serious about creating an environment where the capacity of Nepali construction entrepreneurs can be increased also at the international level.
