KATHMANDU, Dec 5: The Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Bhairahawa witnessed a steady increase in international air traffic, with nearly 5,000 passengers using its services over the past month. From November 3 to December 3, a total of 4,771 passengers traveled through the airport.
Of these, 2,238 passengers flew out of Bhairahawa, while 2,533 arrived from international destinations. This marks a growing trend in the airport's usage, bolstered by airlines connecting Bhairahawa to global hubs and serving as a transit point for passengers heading to Kathmandu.
GBIA sees 46 flights in 11 days, serving 1,326 passengers
In this period, the airport recorded 156 flight movements, equally split between 78 departures and 78 arrivals. Jazeera Airways emerged as the top carrier, handling 3,034 passengers, including 1,792 departures and 1,242 arrivals. Fly Dubai followed, transporting 1,132 passengers to Bhairahawa and 19 outbound passengers.
Other airlines operating from the airport included Thai AirAsia with 447 passengers, Qatar Airways with 93, Nepal Airlines with 39, and chartered flights accounting for 26 passengers.
