Garuda wins U-14 football

KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Garuda Club, Jawalakhel defeated Voice of Children 2-0 in the 11th Garuda Cup U-14 football Tournament on Sunday.

Subash Rai of Garuda was named player-of-the-tournament. President of Garuda Sports Club, Kathmandu said that the tournament was held only among the Children Homes.



“We do not take entry fee for the tournament as it is just for fun.” The cup was dedicated to underprivileged children. Altogether 10 children homes had participated in the tournament.



MMC, Machhindra in last four


Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) and Machhindra Club on Sunday advanced into the semifinal of Nepal Bank Limited Junior (U-14) football tournament being held at ANFA ground, Satdobato.



MMC defeated Bauddha Football Club 2-1 to top advance as the winner of group B. Kamal Thapamagar opened scoring for MMC in the 42nd minute but Kumar Shah levelled the score in the 52nd minute. MMC again restored their lead three minutes later through Gaurabman Shakya.



Machhindra who had accumulated seven points secured spot in the last four as the best runners up team. Bansbari from group A and Nabil Three Star from group C have already advanced into the semifinals.



In the first match of the day, New Road Team (NRT) ousted Armed Police Force (APF) 2-0. Nisar Mungching Magar and Samir Ghising scored one each for the winning side in 51st and 59th minutes respectively.  



Birgunj into semis



Region No 2 Birgunj advanced into the semifinals of MG Trophy T20 Cricket Tournament on Sunday held at Birgunj winning the second consecutive match.



Birgunj defeated Region No 5 Nepalgunj by 26 runs to register their win. Birgunj gathered 132/6 in the allotted 20 overs after they elected to bat first.



Following the run chase, Nepalgunj could manage only 106/9. Binod Das of Birgunj who was declared man-of-the-match scored 22 runs and claimed three wickets. Hasim Ansari top scored with 23 runs for the winning side. Rupesh Sharma scored 30 runs for Nepalgunj.  



In another match, Region No 4 Bhairahawa registered a comprehensive 65 run victory over Region No 5 Pokhara.



Electing to bat first, Bhairahawa accumulated 134/5 and bowled out Pokhara for 69 runs in 16 overs.



Fajhor Rahman scored 42 runs for Bhairahawa.while Bivek Chaudhary of the same team claimed four wickets in their comfortable victory. Chaudhary was declared the man-of-the-match.



Army School win CoAS tournament     



The hosts Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya (Army School) on Sunday clinched the title of the Fourth Chief of the Army Staff Inter-school Running Cricket Tournament.



Army defeated AVM by five wickets played at the home ground -- Sainik School ground, Bhaktapur.



Winning the toss AVM opted to bat first and were restricted to 79 runs in 19.5 overs. Bishwojeet Shah was the highest scorer for AVM with 14 runs while Ayush Thapa, Milan Karki and Abhigya Shrestha of Army bagged two wickets each.



Army School reached the target in just 18.4 overs losing five wickets. Sujan Basnet scored 24 runs off 32 balls. Bishwojeet Shah of AVM took two wickets. Roshan Khatri of Army was adjusted best batsman while Abhigya Shrestha of same school was named bowler of the tournament. Milan Karki of Army was named player of the series.



With the win Army bagged Rs 20, 000 and the winners´ trophy while AVM took home Rs 10, 000.



Urlabari triumph



Urlabari Football Club, Morang, defeated New Triyuga Sports Club, Saptari, 4-2 in tiebreaker on Sunday in the Eastern Regional Gold Cup football tournament at Duhabi, Sunsari.



The match was decided through spotkick after the regulation time ended in 1-1 tie.



Rajin Dhimal, Yaku Rai, Bishal Tamang and Bijay Dhimal converted spotkicks for Urlabari while Hari Ale and Lucky Karki only succeeded for New Triyuga.



Earlier, Dhimal had put Urlabari ahead in the 20th minute but Uttam Bista hit back the equalizer in the 36th minute. Dhimal of Urlabari was declared the man-of-the-match.



The winners and the runners up of the event that kicked off on Saturday will bag a purse of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
