Earlier, she was trying to become a candidate from Dang-1 from CPN-UML. Ganga announced that she would be an independent candidate after learning that UML would field Shanta Chaudhary, a member of the Politburo and the parliamentary party whip, from that constituency.

Chaudhury, who was a proportional member of the Tharuhat Party in the first and second Constituent Assembly, became a proportional member of parliament in 2074 BS from UML.
