Funeral procession of slain Tharus in Dang

NEPALGUNJ, Banke, March 16: The funeral procession of Prakash Chaudhari and Ram Prasad Chaudhari, who were killed by police Friday night in Dang, has begun Monday.



According to Tharu Samyukta Rajya Parishad President Sharan Kumar Chaudhari, around 16,000 people are taking part in the procession that also includes thousands of Tharu activists from five districts – Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kanchanpur and Kailali.



The two will be cremated on the Rapti river banks in Sisniya.



Both Prakash and Ram Prasad were killed in police firing at Lathhawa in Sisniya of Dang on Friday night during curfew hours. They were declared martyrs in a six-point agreement between the government and the agitating Tharu groups on Saturday.



Three others injured during Friday’s police firing are undergoing treatment at Bheri Zonal Hospital.
