French cinema in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, April 16: Four French films are being screened as part of the French Film Festival 2011, being held at the garden of Alliance Française, Tripureswar from April 19 to April 22. Incorporating four genres, the films are being screened for free.



Elise Tassin, director of Alliance Française says, “Using the festival as a medium, we would like to celebrate the beauty of French cinema. [break]



The films are being screened in open air which will give the audience a unique experience”.



She also mentions that each chosen film represents unique cultures within France.



La fille du RER is based on a true story about a woman’s lie that created a sensation in the French media.



The second screening, Ma vie en l’air is a romantic film that should strike a chord among the youngsters.







Tassin furthur adds, “The other two films La petite Jérusalem will enable Nepali audiences to understand the dynamics of a French society, while La prophétie des Grenouilles can be enjoyed by the whole family.



The screenings will begin at 7pm.

Cast: Émilie Dequenne, Catherine Deneuve and Michel Blanc

A drama centered on a young woman who claims she was the target of an anti-Semetic attack and the subsequent media sensation it creates.



April 20, Wednesday

April 21, Thursday

April 22, Friday

La prophétie des Grenouilles (2003)

It’s a catastrophe! A flood has hit our planet and an unusual group of people are all that remains. Led by Ferdinand, a modern day Noah, this little group have managed to defy the furiously raging elements. People and animals alike are dragged through this incredible whirlpool of an adventure.
