KHOTANG, July 18: Four ward chiefs of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality in Khotang have boycotted the municipal assembly meeting expressing their disappointment toward the ceiling of budget set for the wards.

The ward chiefs elected from Nepal Communist Party (NCP) boycotted the municipal assembly stating that the budget ceiling for wards was too low and also for not approving the programs recommended by the locals. Ward chief of Halesi Tuwachung-2 Hari Bahadur Khadka, Bhalaraj Rai, chief of ward no 3, Ramesh Tiwari, chief of ward no 5 and Chaindra Rai, chief of ward no 7 left the program in the middle.

According to them, the municipality has been making decisions unilaterally by neglecting the views of the local representatives of other parties. Ward chief Bhalaraj Rai said he left the municipal assembly halfway on Tuesday as his demands were completely ignored. The agitating ward chiefs claim that the assembly did not publicize the audit report of fiscal year 2017/18 and progress evaluation report of 2018/19 and the details of internal tax and revenue collected so far.

They have also released a press statement accusing the municipality of carrying out some irresponsible activities. Meanwhile, Iwan Rai, mayor of Halesi Tuwachung, stated that programs and policies have been endorsed as per the ceiling. He added that they could not discuss about the financial issues as the accountant has gone to Kathmandu for health treatment.
