Government on April 8 had decided to promote four deputy inspector generals of Nepal Police to the post of AIG in line with the Supreme Court order issued 18 month ago. Four recently promoted AIGPs -- Yadav Adhikari, Bishwaraj Singh Shahi, Parshuram Khatri and Sushil Bar Singh Thapa -- had knocked the door of the court in 2014 claiming that they were deprived of their right to be promoted although they were equally eligible for the promotion along with other DIGPs.

Responding to two separate petitions filed by them, the apex court had ordered the government to promote them the same year. During the conferring ceremony, IGP Aryal urged the recently promoted AIGPs to be instrumental in enhancing the image of the police institution.
