SARLAHI, Aug 16: A former teacher, Rampukar Raya Yadav, was shot dead in Haripurwa Municipality–6 of Sarlahi district by unidentified assailants.
Police confirmed that 45-year-old Yadav was gunned down on Friday evening while chatting with neighbors in the courtyard of his house.
Why teachers are important
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Saroj Rai, two men arrived on a motorcycle and one of them pulled out a pistol and shot Yadav in the head. He was critically injured and rushed to a health facility at Parsa village in Sonama Rural Municipality, Mahottari, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants approached the group of neighbors, asked “Who is Rampukar?” and immediately opened fire.
Police said that while fleeing, one of the shooters was injured in a motorcycle accident, while the other managed to escape. The injured suspect is currently receiving treatment in Janakpur under police supervision. DSP Rai informed that the identities of those involved have already been confirmed and further action is underway.
Locals said that the deceased Yadav had previously worked as a teacher at a private school in Malangwa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi. In recent years, he had been engaged in farming and lending money in the village.
