Foreigner arrested in possession of cocaine worth around Rs 40 million in Thamel

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Police have arrested a foreign national along with cocaine worth around Rs 40 million from Thamel in Kathmandu. The arrested person has been identified as Bhamara Kon, a citizen of Ivory Coast.

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Police have arrested a foreign national along with cocaine worth around Rs 40 million from Thamel in Kathmandu. The arrested person has been identified as Bhamara Kon, a citizen of Ivory Coast.


Prem Bahadur Shahi, information officer at the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Nepal Police said that a total of 1 kg 88 grams of cocaine was discovered in his possession on Sunday.

He said that he arrived in Nepal via a Qatar Airlines flight on August 19 and was arrested along with 69 capsules of cocaine from a hotel in Jyatha, Thamel.


Shahi said that the cocaine capsules were discovered hidden inside a toy.


According to preliminary investigations, the accused is reported to have transported the capsules from Nigeria, and arrived in Kathmandu via Ethiopia and Doha.


According to the NCB, necessary action has been initiated against him under  the Narcotics Control Act, 2033 (1976).
